the importance of star gazing
just because you're not a perfect newlywed in a movie montage to the song "i lived" by one republic doesn't mean you can't try it... i promise :)
Star gazing is a very spontaneous and out of body experience that I think everyone should try. It took me 18 years to give it a chance. As I stared at the stars, I felt like a movie character. I felt like I was a part of something bigger than myself- which one could account to the whole night being a main character experience, but it was more than that; it was real. The light I was seeing from the stars was shown millions of years ago but I was just now seeing it. The vibrant glow traveled at the speed of light but was so far away that it took years to reach me. At that very moment I was looking at light that, for all I know, didn’t exist anymore. This complex reality baffled me. I didn’t know whether to feel empowered or belittled. At one end, knowing that I live in a world among such a creation makes me feel special and chosen but with that comes the knowledge that I have no power or dominion over something like the stars which can be uncomfortable, considering I naturally like to have control over things in my life. However, I settled with feeling both. I was pleased to be humbled, knowing that I don’t have the power to ruin nature’s perfect rhythm- for that is in God’s hands. It’s a feeling words can’t fully describe- you must try it yourself. I encourage you to go immerse yourself in nature like you were created to! Nowadays I feel like mankind only spends time in nature on special occasions- a lake day, a week of summer camp, a golf tournament are all special occasions that brought me into nature. However, when you think to the beginning of time, it was only humans and nature. Both creatures respected each other and provided for one another, and I believe that is still the case, but it just goes unappreciated. Stargazing is a way to recognize nature and not expect anything back from it, like we are prone to do. It is a way to celebrate God’s immaculate creation that we, so luckily, get to be a part of.
